Just to let you know…

I have not been on here in a while.  I have had my hands pretty full with the myspace page and all the Hobo going-ons.  I will try to update this a little more often but, I will make no promises.

Sunday was the Hobofites Session and live recording at House of Rock.  There was food, beer and great music.  It was more fun than I can describe to get up on a Sunday and go hang out at the House of Rock.  First of all, Hobo would like to congratulate Heidi for winning the raffle.  She bought a ton of tickets so, obviously already had plans for the one hour with Hobo.  We look forward to helping her celebrate her birthday  in style.  In an interesting development, she bartered away Garry’s soul to Casey at House of Rock.  So, now Casey has it.  What could this possibly mean for Garry?  We will have to wait and see.

April and May have been really busy for Hobo.  June is shaping up to be just as busy.  Along with some “regular” shows in June, Hobo, along with Ty Dietz, will also be opening up for South Austin Jug Band when they play at House of Rock.  SAJB is a really fun band to see perform.  So, make time for that.

I reckon that is all for now.  See you at a show soon.

Hobo Soup

This was just interesting….

Hobo Soup for the Junkyard Soul

hobo-soup.jpg

“Unfortunately, bidding has ended on the eBay auction for this (full) can of vintage Hobo Soup, …the brainchild of a small-town newspaperman from Ortonville, Minn., who in 1953 went into the local hobo camps in search of a feature story. As a result he was treated to old-fashioned homemade hobo soup and felt the world should share in this down-to-earth cuisine. Made with beans, potatoes, carrots, tomatoes, celery, onions, and turnips, and flavored with bacon to give it a satisfying smoky taste, this thick and hearty vegetable soup is literally a meal in itself. Simply heat and eat.

Don’t feel bad that you missed out on a chance to bid for a can of 45-year old soup though, because as it turns out, they still make it!”

Saturday at the House of Rock

Posted in Hobo News, Live, Music, Upcoming Events on January 15, 2008 by HOBO

Saturday night at the House of Rock was amazing, as always. The sound guy, Jeremy, did a super-great job of hooking up the band so that everything meshed like it should. AND, he recorded the show for them. The recording is phenomenal and totally captured their organic sound. So, if you somehow missed this wondrous event known as Hobo, you can purchase a copy of the show on cd for $5 plus shipping and handling. If interested, contact us at hobofreddie@gmail.com. Their next show will not be until February 1 at a benefit at the House of Rock. Then, on February 2, they are performing at a Groundhog Day Festival. We are not sure about the details on that yet but, soon. Check back and we will let you know when we know.

Saturday Night Fever

This is Melissa’s take on the past weekend’s shows:
Friday night started out at Yin Yang Fandango & the Tango Tea Room. A totally different experience. First off, it wasn’t a bar so, we could bring kids. And, they had food, really great food. I hope they play there again soon. It’ll give me an easy excuse to eat there again. Being a different kind of place, there was a different kind of crowd. The type of music Hobo plays suited their crowd perfectly. The audience was great and the staff there were extremely friendly. It is just a fun place.
Saturday found the band at the House of Rock. They opened up a band tab for the guys to get beer while they were there. Nathan decided to get all of their drinks at one time. It seemed brilliant to begin with. However, all that drinking made them have to go to the bathroom about half way through. So, they had an intermission. Okay, they called it an “interpission”.”Very interesting. I hadn’t been to see a band that had an intermission before. The show was great. After the intermission, they borrowed Paul Sutherland’s harmonica player, Moses. Moses can rock on the harmonica. Without ever practicing together, they got up there and nailed it, hard. It was a great thing to behold. After the show, Paul Sutherland played. I hadn’t seen them before but, they were great. The band was really tight and their energy was impressive. I have heard Paul sing before by himself and he has just a great voice. Drastic Actions went on after Paul Sutherland. They are hardcore punk. They were a lot of fun to watch and listen to. Drastic Actions are supposed to be having a new cd out soon. It was very interesting to have different types of musical styles in one show. Good interesting, not bad. After this, someone (Susan) suggested we go do karaoke. Nathan took a liking to the idea and we ended up at the crappiest karaoke bar EVER. We will call it Cheers, because that was it’s name but, it was anything BUT cheerful. It looked like a thousand whores lost their innocence there. After letting them know we were there to do karaoke, with no one up there, they had some really crappy regulars all of a sudden decide to get up there and monotonously sing some really long boring songs to waste our time. FINALLY, it was our turn. Nathan went up first. Then, Richard. Then, they decided to call “last call” early just to get rid of us. You would think that some lazy little whore bar would want something to liven it up but, not this place. So, if you are ever around Corpus Christi, Texas and you get a hankering for some karaoke, never, ever, EVER go to a little dive known as Cheers. After that entertaining experience, we found ourselves back at the House of Rock where we discovered Jason and the Punknecks had made it in from San Antonio. (We had heard they were not going to be able to make it.) So, we caught the last song and then wandered on our way. It was time to go anyway. It was a really fun night overall, despite certain people not being able to make it to the show. (You know who you are.)
